American Airlines Falsely Accuses Black Passenger Of Trafficking His Own Wife
American Airlines Falsely Accuses Black Passenger Of Trafficking His Own Wife
- 6 minutes
Once again American Airlines.
Once again in the news. Why?
Because they accused the black male
of trafficking his own wife.
Put it a full mass. I kid you not.
An interracial couple is now taking
[00:00:18]
legal action against American Airlines
after the husband was falsely accused by
airline staff of trafficking his own wife.
Anthony Williams on the right, a former
police officer who happens to be black
[00:00:38]
and his wife on the left, who is white.
They were celebrating
their recent nuptials.
This was on a 2022 flight from Phoenix
to Miami, when a fellow passenger
who believed Williams was trafficking
his wife, alerted the flight crew.
[00:01:00]
I don't I can't even imagine
how that conversation goes.
So he alerts the flight crew.
I assume there's a perhaps
a protocol to this.
But according to Business Insider, the
couple's lawsuit says American Airlines,
[00:01:17]
falsely reported to law enforcement
that plaintiff Anthony was human
trafficking his own wife, end quote,
without asking the couple any questions.
When the flight landed in Miami, the
couple was escorted off the plane, where
[00:01:35]
they were then questioned by local police.
The couple, who says they were left
feeling, quote, confused and embarrassed,
end quote, by the situation.
They are now seeking $75,000 in damages.
So, according to law and crime,
the couple's case is being handled
[00:01:53]
by civil rights lawyer Jasmine Rand, who
also represented the families of Trayvon
Martin, George Floyd and Michael Brown.
This is a serious attorney.
The attorney obtained
the following statement from Mr. Williams.
Quote I am a former law
enforcement officer.
[00:02:10]
I worked hard to fight crime,
and to be accused of committing
a heinous crime is unfathomable.
I was accused of human trafficking
my wife because of my race.
I fought hard to uphold the law
in this country.
And I will fight hard now
to uphold the laws that prohibit
[00:02:27]
racial discrimination and, quote,
civil rights attorney Ben Taylor,
who is not associated with this case,
says he understands why Williams
and his wife, Shizuka, are uncomfortable.
Quote.
[00:02:43]
It's very stressful when you're trying
to go to your honeymoon and enjoy
a good time, and the next thing you know,
you're being pulled over by police
and flight attendants for something.
You didn't do anything wrong,
he told Arizona's family.
[00:03:02]
Mr. Williams is correct.
And let me explain why I say he's correct.
If he would have been a white male,
or if his wife would have been black.
I don't think this happens.
[00:03:17]
And if someone says something
to a flight attendant and you don't have
the interracial dynamic
of a black male and a white wife,
or one that is of interracial couple,
[00:03:36]
you don't get the lack of protocol.
See, the lawsuit or the threat
of lawsuit is very distinctive.
They're saying the airline concluded
that this was in fact a crime
and reported it as such.
[00:03:55]
Now, if you remember when we had
the judge on the show and the whole thing
went national and we had on the program,
she said something very similar
that they basically reported that she had,
in fact, committed a crime when the police
investigated as they, after they landed,
[00:04:15]
realized no crime was committed.
But that's not the way
it was reported to them, according
to the officer who was responding.
And all the officer is doing
is responding to what's being said
by the flight attendant or by those
who are in charge of relaying the message.
All right, Ben. Very sad situation I'm in.
[00:04:33]
In a way, no matter what happens,
this story is connected to a guy
who probably has no criminal record.
He obviously wasn't trafficking his
own wife, trying to have a vacation, but
now he's marred with this national story,
[00:04:48]
an accusation, and obviously has
to go through the judicial process
to get some level of remedy.
- What say you? 100%.
- The story is super messed up.
Unless, you know, they were taking
role playing to a whole new level.
[00:05:04]
- That they would do that.
- And I doubt, I doubt that was the case.
These are people
going on a vacation together,
and what happened to them is disgusting.
And the only mistake I see
in how they're handling this case
is just trying to get $75,000 only.
[00:05:22]
You've had your reputation
dragged through the mud now publicly,
and you've given your life to law
enforcement, and you're being accused
of one of the worst crimes there is.
This is in the millions.
This is certainly more than $75,000.
[00:05:40]
So you can also see that they're
not trying to get some insane payday.
They're just trying to get
some measure of justice.
And, I imagine they're going
to prevail in this case
because how do you argue against it?
American Airlines is going to take a hard
stand now saying, well, we did accuse you
[00:05:56]
of trafficking your own wife.
But in our defense,
what's the rest of that sentence?
Right.
And this isn't the first time they've
been accused of racial discrimination.
ET cetera.
It sounds as if American Airlines
sounds like they're getting very close
to possibly a class action lawsuit.
[00:06:13]
Given the number of cases
that we've seen at indisputable.
It has definitely been lopsided.
