The Young Turks: June 03, 2014

Ana joins Cenk for SCS.  A new study showed that people are less likely to take a hurricane seriously if it has a female name, causing them to not evacuate.  They discovered this by noticing that the death rate is higher in instances of storms named after women. A Florida judge got into a physical fight with the public defender after he refused to waive his client’s right to a speedy trial.  After they stepped outside and the judge repeatedly punched the attorney in the face, he’s not facing any charges.  The “Grandfather of Ecstasy” has passed away at 88 years old.  Ana talks about his fascinating life.  A man snuck into the home of two women having sex to watch, and possibly get involved.  When they discovered him, he ran away and is still on the loose.  Ana & Cenk talk about how she thinks he has a lot in common with the peeping Tom. Member Thanks.  A couple of 12 year old girls face attempted murder charges after they stabbed their friend 19 times over their belief in Slender Man.  Cenk wonders if he’s damaging his kid’s mind by telling him outrageous stories about fictional characters.  A restaurant called Big Earl’s kicked a gay couple out when they noticed that they were together.  Afterwards, supporters of the couple began flooding the restaurant’s Yelp page with humorous gay suggestions about the establishment. Cenk hosting.  An Arizona Republican previously named Scott Fistler lost a Congressional race in the last election cycle.  This time, he switched to the Democratic Party and legally changed his name to Cesar Chavez in order to win in the heavily Latino district.  He also posted pictures of tons of people holding signs that read, “Viva Chavez.”  He simply snatched those pictures from demonstrations in favor of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.  An Alabama church that teaches young children about God, put up a billboard that quoted Adolf Hitler about how to teach, and “own” the youth.  They related a Bible quote right under it to connect the two ideologies.  They later apologized and said they should’ve quoted Herbert Hoover instead.  A elderly man pulled a shotgun on a father that was teaching his 7 year old daughter how to ride a bike.  The old man gave some advice, and his flippant reaction to the advice pissed him off. Due to Stephen Colbert’s running gag about starting a Super PAC, many people got educated on campaign finance.  In fact, Colbert’s show got more people educated on the subject than any other news source.  As TYT has reported about the situation in Ukraine and Russia, it has been discovered that Russia has released an army of internet trolls to combat anyone that speaks out against what they’re doing.  The objective is to change public opinion to favor their point of view.  By the urging and hard work of WolfPAC causing Vermont to call for a Constitutional amendment to take money out of politics, a Congressional hearing finally met today.  At the hearing, Sen Reid called out Sen McConnell to his face about his hypocrisy on the issue.  Nearly 30 years ago, McConnell called for money to be taken out of politics in his own amendment, but today, he is all for it. NY Times article about how virtually no Wall St types went to prison for their crimes after they destroyed the economy with their fraudulent activities.  Instead, they received deferred and non-prosecution agreements.  The one conviction was from one that plead guilty, which wouldn’t have happened if he didn't plead guilty.  Cenk details how the government assisted giveaway took place.
