The Young Turks: December 16, 2013

A District judge has ruled that the NSA spying program violates the 4th Amendment.  A 60 Minutes report found that some members of the NSA believe the information Snowden has is so important that we should consider granting him amnesty if we can recover it. General Keith Alexander disagrees with amnesty, comparing it to giving a kidnapper who has killed 10 hostages full amnesty.  The full report made sure to allow the NSA plenty of time to shape the argument any way they want to.  The reporter that did the puff piece with the NSA is a former staff member of FISA and now ready to move on to be the counter-terrorism official for the NYPD.  His desire to make the surveillance world look good is obvious. Paul Ryan appeared on Fox News Sunday and defended the Conservative Groups that criticized his budget deal.  He also talked about how the Republicans look to see what they can get out of the next debt limit battle.  Cenk tells what he would do if he were Obama.  Rush Limbaugh severely criticized the Pope for his anti-capitalist stance, declaring that he was saying Marxist things.  The Pope was asked about this and said that although he’s not a Marxist, they are very good people.  Sen Mitch McConnell spoke about the Republican tactic to talk big about cutting spending, but using even more money on the defense industry. Sen John Cornyn is facing a primary challenge from Rep Steve Stockman who called Cornyn a “liberal” in a fiery fundraising note.  Video of Cornyn’s corny “Big Bad John” ad during his last election.  He’s beating Stockmany in early numbers 50%-6%.  Discussion over the protests happening in the Ukraine over the potential deal to be a satellite country to Russia.
