The Young Turks: January 02, 2013

Hour 2 Segment 1 Ana joins Cenk for SCS. Update on the Steubenville HS rape case that Anonymous has gotten involved in. Ana lists some of the craziest new laws going into effect in 2013. Strip Club tax, computer driven cars, and a ban on plastic bottles. One Wall St escort wrote about her experiences with her banker clientele. A State Senator went on a rant against Kwanzaa in being paranoid about White Liberals pushing it to take over Santa. Segment 2 Kanye and Kim Kardashian are going to have a baby, and they are already getting huge offers for rights over the pictures of the baby. Cenk doesn’t get Keeping Up with the Kardashians. After Ann Curry was replaced on the Today Show due to lack of ratings, the numbers haven’t jumped back up yet. Kimani's quote of the day: "The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom." - Isaac Asimov Again, we'd like to apologize for the delay in content availability. Our initial recording of yesterday's show failed, which means our usual processes for producing this content were not employed. We had to pull the raw files of the show off of our tricaster (the computer which we use to live-produce the show), which operates in an entirely different context in terms of video formatting. When we pull the raw files off of our tricaster, we have to transcode them into the codec that we can use with the rest of our studios equipment. These files are very large, so sometimes, this process fails and that can't be helped without some better equipment. This morning, that process failed twice. So again, we apologize for the delay, and we thank you for your patience and your continued support. ~Kimani Hour 1 Segment 1 Cenk hosting today. He announces the sale of Current TV to Al Jazeera. The Fiscal Cliff deal was wrapped up in the middle of the night. Since it had already passed the end of 2012, the Bush Tax Cuts had already expired. Obama’s deal was actually a new tax cut deal that benefits the rich more than if he simply left them expired. Video mashup of Obama drilling into our heads that the $250,000 threshold is where tax cuts would increase. Analysis of how the rich were given tax handouts with rates, capital gains, & estate taxes. Video of Grover Norquist clearly pointing out that GOP members that voted for this aren’t in violation of the pledge since it saves taxes for the rich. Video of Norquist bragging that Dems are now preserving 84% of the Bush Tax Cuts after hating on them for years. The few things that benefit the Middle Class are set to expire, while the horrible things are permanent. After its all been negotiated, Obama only got $600 billion on revenue when Boehner offered $800 billion and Obama called for $1.7 trillion. Videos of Obama explaining his deal as positive. He vowed to not have a fight over the debt ceiling. Segment 2 Robert Gibbs spoke about how Obama has decided to not simply be beholden to what the Party wants. The West Wing thinks it won big. They have achieved their goal of looking like they are above partisanship. Boehner bragged to other Repubs that he told Harry Reid, “Go Fuck Yourself.” Segment 3 John Boehner went back on his word to East Coast Reps to conduct a vote on giving funds to Sandy victims. Repubs like Peter King, Michael Grimm, and Chris Christie are openly outraged at the GOP leadership. The ironic part is that these Republicans hate government assistance when it isn’t for them. Warrantless wiretapping has also been hypocritically extended by the Obama Admin.
